A rad woman was born on this day.

The history of women and their accomplishments is woefully underwritten. In my role as Marketing & Civic Engagement Director at Alice Paul Institute (API), I built API’s social strategy around a central theme: bring the diversity of women’s history into the daily lives of the organization’s followers with a deep focus on inclusion.

Seven days a week, we featured a #HappyBirthday post that shared a photo and the story of a woman or girl that was born on that day. From women born hundreds of years ago to girls not yet old enough to vote, we celebrated the the birth of thousands of women and girls. Our posts featured women of color, members of GLBTQI communities, native and indigenous women, and so many more.

The “Happy Birthday!” posts were immediately popular with very high engagement rates demonstrated in the high number of likes, comments, and shares. The #HBD posts remain an integral part of API’s social feed.
